On October 8, it was reported that after over a month of collaborative efforts, engineering and technical teams from Armenia's Nayirite Company, China's Shanxi Synthetic Rubber Group Corporation, and the Second Design Institute of the Chemical Industry have completed the preliminary review of the basic design documents for the first phase of the proposed 30,000-tonne neoprene rubber technical upgrade project under the Asia-Pacific joint venture.
The teams from both sides conducted in-depth research on key areas such as process technology, automation, equipment, and electrical systems. They carried out specialized studies on major systems and critical technical challenges, confirmed the technological solutions and major equipment provided by the Asian side, and addressed existing issues and requirements. A consensus was reached on the revised content, marking significant progress in the project’s development.
This 30,000-tonne off-site technical renovation project for the Central Asia Joint Venture represents a strategic combination of China's resource advantages with advanced technologies, skilled personnel, and idle equipment from the Asian partner. Both parties have engaged in multiple visits, technical negotiations, and implementation planning, including signing the joint venture agreement, submitting project proposals, and completing technical discussions and exchanges. The basic design has now been finalized, and it is reported that the majority of the detailed design work for the chloroprene rubber supporting facilities at the Second Design Institute of the Chemical Industry has already been completed.
Nayirite is Armenia’s largest and most important industrial enterprise, historically known as a synthetic rubber production base before the dissolution of the Soviet Union. It possesses some of the most advanced production facilities globally, along with strong R&D capabilities and a team of senior experts. Shanxi Synthetic Rubber Group is a major Chinese company specializing in chloroprene rubber production, holding over 34% of the domestic market share and exporting a small volume of products.
Neoprene rubber production is highly technical and capital-intensive. Currently, only two companies in China—Shanxi Synthetic Rubber Group and Sichuan Changshou Chemical Plant—produce it, with a combined annual capacity of around 40,000 tons. The technology introduced in this project is among the world’s most advanced, aiming to transform China’s current small-scale and limited-product-range production of chloroprene rubber. It will help reduce raw material consumption, improve product quality, achieve economies of scale, and position China among the global leaders in neoprene rubber manufacturing.
