In the early days of the new year, the DQ20Y1 hydraulic top drive, developed by the Petroleum Machinery Plant under the North China Equipment Manufacturing Division, was successfully tested and put into use. This marks a significant milestone as it is the first hydraulic top drive in China designed specifically for 2000-meter drilling rigs and workover rigs, with full intellectual property rights. The development of this device represents a major breakthrough in domestic oilfield equipment technology.
In 2006, in response to changing market demands, the Huabei Petroleum Machinery Factory accelerated its technological innovation and made the R&D and production of the DQ20Y1 top drive one of its key growth areas. Collaborating with the China Petroleum Exploration and Development Research Institute, the factory invested over 14 million yuan to establish a dedicated production line. Through this effort, the plant quickly mastered the core technologies of top drive systems and even designed and built specialized testing facilities, including a torque-speed comprehensive test bench, a hook test bench, and a water (oil) pressure seal test bench. All products are manufactured and tested in accordance with the ISO9001 quality management system and API standards, ensuring high-quality performance.
After two years of intensive research and development, the factory successfully launched the DQ20Y1 hydraulic top drive, filling a critical gap in the domestic design and manufacturing of 2000-meter top drive systems. This device meets the growing needs of oil and gas drilling operations as well as coalbed methane development projects.
The DQ20Y1 top drive unit features advanced performance, an innovative structure, compact size, and lightweight design. It is equipped with a PLC control system and a field bus control system, enabling seamless operation and enhanced safety. In January 2008, the second field test was conducted at the S55-11X well, drilled by the 30537 drilling team from the Third Drilling Company of the North China Petroleum Administration. The test lasted 16 days, reaching a depth of 2032 meters, and fully met all the design and operational requirements. This success confirmed the reliability and efficiency of the DQ20Y1, marking a significant step forward in China's oilfield equipment industry.
