In the early days of the new year, the DQ20Y1 hydraulic top drive, developed by the Petroleum Machinery Plant under the North China Equipment Manufacturing Division, was successfully tested and put into use. This marks a significant milestone as it is the first hydraulic top drive in China specifically designed for 2000-meter drilling rigs and workover rigs, with full independent intellectual property rights.
In 2006, in response to market demands and industry changes, the Huabei Petroleum Machinery Factory accelerated its development efforts by leveraging technological innovation. The R&D and production of the DQ20Y1 top drive became one of the key growth areas for the company. Collaborating with the China Petroleum Exploration and Development Research Institute, the factory invested over 14 million yuan to establish a dedicated production line. It quickly mastered the core technologies of top drive systems and even designed and built specialized testing facilities, including a torque-speed comprehensive test bench, a hook test bench, and a water (oil) pressure seal test bench. All products are manufactured and tested in compliance with the ISO9001 quality management system and API standards, ensuring high-quality performance. After two years of intensive research and development, the factory successfully launched a hydraulic top drive suitable for 2000-meter rigs, filling a critical gap in domestic technology and meeting the growing needs of oil and gas drilling as well as coalbed methane exploration.
The DQ20Y1 top drive unit features advanced performance, an innovative design, compact size, and lightweight construction. It is equipped with a PLC control system and a field bus control system, enabling safe and efficient operation through interlocking functions. In January 2008, the second field test was conducted on the S55-11X well, drilled by the 30537 drilling team from the Third Drilling Company of the North China Petroleum Administration. The test lasted 16 days, reaching a depth of 2032 meters, and fully met all design and operational requirements, proving the reliability and effectiveness of the system.
