Jiaodong Online News — Fushan District has successfully developed its auto parts industry by leveraging its strategic geographical advantages. Currently, 30 auto parts companies from Japan, South Korea, and Shanghai have established operations in the area, with a total investment reaching 4.9 billion yuan. In 2001, Yantai City launched its "Car Body Project," marking a significant step forward in the local automotive sector. That same year, Fushan District took the lead by introducing the Yazaki Auto Wiring Harness Project from Japan, laying the foundation for整车 (complete vehicle) production in Yantai.
Today, "Yazaki Harness" is globally recognized, with its products used in renowned vehicles such as Ford and General Motors. The company holds one-third of the global market share in passenger car wiring harnesses. In December 2002, after the establishment of Shanghai Dongyue Automobile in the Yantai Development Zone, Fushan District seized the opportunity to invest over 300 million yuan in infrastructure and supporting services for Dongyue’s supply chain.
The district also attracted key projects like Shanghai Yanfeng Johnson Cars Co., Ltd. and Dongyue Auto Parts Co., Ltd., which became top choices for Shanghai-based auto parts companies looking to enter the province. Meanwhile, Fushan actively targeted Japan and South Korea to attract major projects. Honda Corporation, a leading Japanese automaker specializing in automotive molds, parts, and resins, was successfully brought on board through Fushan's "Japan-Korea-China Interaction Chain" strategy. Honda later invested 20 million U.S. dollars to set up a molding and parts project in Fushan.
To further strengthen the industry, Fushan has established an auto parts trading center and a research institute, initiated the formation of the Yantai Auto Parts Association, and plans to establish a joint venture with the German Automotive Vocational College. Over the next five years, the district aims to bring in 60 to 100 new auto parts projects, aiming to expand and enhance the local auto parts industry significantly.
