Jiaodong Online News — Fushan District has leveraged its geographical advantages to develop a robust auto parts industry. Currently, 30 auto parts companies from Japan, South Korea, and Shanghai have established operations in the area, with a total investment reaching 4.9 billion yuan. In 2001, Yantai City launched its "Car Body Project," marking a significant step in the local automotive sector. That same year, Fushan District took the lead by introducing the Yazaki Auto Wiring Harness Project from Japan, laying a solid foundation for整车 (complete vehicle) production in Yantai.
Today, "Yazaki Harness" is recognized globally, with its wiring systems used in popular vehicles like Ford and General Motors. The company holds one-third of the global market share in passenger car wiring harnesses. In December 2002, after the establishment of Shanghai Dongyue Automobile in the Yantai Development Zone, Fushan District seized the opportunity to invest over 300 million yuan in infrastructure and support services for Dongyue's supply chain.
The district also successfully attracted key projects such as Shanghai Yanfeng Johnson Cars Co., Ltd. and Dongyue Auto Parts Co., Ltd., making it a preferred destination for Shanghai-based auto parts companies looking to expand into the province. Meanwhile, Fushan actively pursued large-scale projects in Japan and South Korea. Honda Corporation, a major Japanese company involved in automotive molds, parts, and resins, was introduced through a strategic approach emphasizing the "Japan-South Korea-China Interaction Chain."
After several visits and negotiations, Fushan managed to attract Honda to set up a mold and related parts project, investing 20 million U.S. dollars. To further strengthen the industry, Fushan has established an auto parts trading center and a research institute. It has also initiated the formation of the Yantai Automobile Parts Association and plans to establish a joint venture with the German Automotive Vocational College.
