PSA Peugeot Citroen and General Motors Joint Production Plan Initially Appeared

On March 2, PSA Peugeot Citroen CEO Philippe Varin revealed to RTL radio station in France: “Our factory has started assembling Peugeot and Citroen models on the same production line at the same time. In the future we may also be able to manufacture GM’s Vehicles, and vice versa (Peugeot Citroën models are assembled at the GM plant.) However, joint production will not occur earlier than 2016, so there will be little impact on production in the short term.”

In addition, the German "Week" (Die Welt) pointed out on the same day that General Motors and PSA Peugeot Citroen may develop new large-size cars based on the Opel/Vauxhall Insignia medium-sized vehicle platform.

The "Le Monde" quoted an Opel executive commenting that the platform will benefit Peugeot Citroen and the Peugeot currently lacks funds to develop large cars such as Peugeot 508 and Citroen C5. Opel executives said: "This platform has extensible features and was originally planned to be used to derive a large Saab car, but the car has not been put into production."

In addition to large vehicles, small cars will also become the focus of cooperation. "Le Monde" revealed that General Motors and PSA Peugeot Citroën will jointly build a new platform, in the future will be based on the annual production of 2 million small cars, mainly for the Latin American market.
