Heavy excavator, built for the challenge - Cat® 349D2 hydraulic excavator reloads

On January 5, 2015, Caterpillar released the Cat 349D2 hydraulic excavator for the Chinese market.

The new Cat 349D2 has a working weight range of 45,382kg (standard chassis) to 47,919kg (extended chassis) and is designed to handle the most demanding conditions. The Cat 349D2 offers three different chassis system options and a variety of boom and stick combinations that can be changed to optimize the performance and durability of the mission. The highly fuel-efficient Cat C13 engine, combined with a high-precision, powerful hydraulic system, ensures excellent performance regardless of the bucket or other Cat work tools. The Cat C13 engine features an electronically controlled, mechanically-driven, single-fuel injection system that operates at high pressures to ensure adequate fuel combustion for superior fuel economy.

To reduce cost of ownership and operation, the Cat 349D2 default operating mode is set to fuel-saving mode and can automatically jump from any previously selected mode to an optimized fuel-saving mode after launch, saving up to 9% fuel consumption and more Meet the needs of customers. The exclusive Cat ADEMTM A4 electronic control module allows the engine to react quickly to different conditions, maintaining optimal performance and efficiency.

Hydraulic technology, equipment structure and operating environment

The Cat 349D2 features a pilot hydraulic system that is easy to operate with tools, swivel and travel functions and can be scaled. It adopts double main pump design, which can fully mobilize every output power of the engine regardless of the operating conditions to maximize efficiency. The boom and stick are designed with a hydraulic regenerative circuit that reduces cycle time, reduces main pump load, and saves fuel consumption. The entire system features a boom-up and swing-operated automatic priority function that automatically distributes hydraulic flow based on the joystick action, eliminating the need for a work mode button. Hydraulic cylinder bumpers absorb shock at the end of the stroke, reducing noise and extending component life.

The chassis system of the Cat 349D2 is available in standard (model: 349D2, track length 5070 mm) and extended (model: 349D2 L, track length 5360 mm). Regardless of the choice, the track chain is lubricated with grease to reduce driving noise and reduce internal friction pin/bushing friction, further reducing operating costs.

The rugged Cat undercarriage absorbs stress and provides excellent stability. The Cat 349D2 comes standard with grease lubricated tracks. The track links are assembled and sealed with grease to reduce internal bushing wear, reduce travel noise, extend service life and reduce operating costs.

The Cat 349D2's X-shaped box section body has excellent resistance to twisting. Press-formed, robot-welded track roller frames provide excellent strength and durability. The undercarriage's track frame has a pentagon cross section and is made of thick steel for optimum durability. The top of the track frame is designed with a steep angle to help prevent mud and debris buildup.

The Cat 349D2 has a spacious, soundproof and comfortable cab with a flexible suspension seat as standard; a forced-filtered booster system allows the operator to select fresh or recirculated air through a switch on the left console. In addition, all the glass is glued directly to the cab, so there is no need to use the window frame to maximize the field of view. With the one-touch touch release system, the upper front windshield can be opened, closed and retracted onto the canopy above the operator. The wiper mounted on the column has both continuous and intermittent modes of operation, which expands the driver's field of vision. The cab shell is attached to the frame with a viscous rubber mount that reduces operator vibration while reducing vibration and noise levels. The use of thick steel pipes around the bottom improves the fatigue and vibration resistance of the cab.

The Cat 349D2's joystick features integrated pushbuttons and slide switches to control a wide range of hydro-mechanical work tools; LCD monitors display information in 28 different languages to better meet the needs of operators from all over the world. In addition, a pre-start check screen is provided to alert the operator to various levels of insufficient liquid levels.

Tooling and maintenance

To meet the needs of digging, loading, trenching and other work and various work tools, the Cat 349D2 offers a wide range of boom and stick combinations to choose from. The standard extension boom can be used with a 2.9 m, 3.35 m or 3.9 m stick, while the large bucket has a choice of 2.5 m and 3.0 m sticks. A wide range of Cat work tools, including buckets, hammers, grabs, hydraulic shears, multi-function processors and rippers, enhance machine versatility and utilization. The new Cat pin grabber connector fully meets or exceeds all current international standards including EN474 and ISO13031. At the same time, the hydraulic kits required for future installations of other work tools, including prefabricated hoses and pre-bent and painted hard tubes, are pre-installed and are equipped with complete installation instructions for easy installation.

The Cat 349D2's conventional maintenance points are conveniently located with a concentrated remote lubrication point on the boom that delivers grease to hard-to-reach locations; the oil-water separator has a large fuel filter element and is located in the air The chamber of the filter is easily accessible for inspection from the ground.

The Cat 349D2 engine oil and filter maintenance cycle is extended to 500 hours, while the radial seal air filter alerts the operator when the blockage level reaches a preset level, and the associated service can be completed without tools. The standard oil sample port and pressure port facilitate the completion of machine condition checks.
