Driven by rising global demand, an Austrian chemical company is expanding its biofungicide production facilities in Suzhou, China. In addition, it will also increase its biological production capacity in Rochester, New York, and Sooke, Ireland. The expansion includes the production of bactericides and intermediate compounds.
Luis Mansme, the company's global vice president, stated, "In recent years, the global demand for biocides has been growing at a rapid pace. To meet this increasing need, we are expanding our production facilities across three continents simultaneously. This strategic move will allow us to better serve our customers and support sustainable growth."
The products involved in the expansion include key additives such as copper, zinc, and sodium, which are used for product protection, hygiene, and industrial applications. Aojing Chemical’s biofungicide products are primarily used in personal care items, construction materials, and marine coatings. These formulations effectively prevent mold growth on both interior and exterior surfaces, such as wall panels and ceilings.
Currently, the company is constructing a zinc pyrithione production plant in Suzhou. Zinc pyrithione is widely used in anti-dandruff shampoos, as it inhibits bacterial growth on the scalp. Alongside the production facility, the Suzhou site also features supporting laboratories and a technical support center, which is expected to be operational later this year. Earlier this year, the Suzhou factory completed a new facility for drying and grinding fine powders, mainly used in the processing of zinc- and copper-based fungicides for marine antifouling paints.
Meanwhile, the company’s facilities in the United States and Ireland will focus on increasing the production of biocides and 2-chloropyridine intermediates. Notably, the Rochester plant already holds the world’s largest production capacity for 2-chloropyridine. Once the expansion is complete, the plant’s capacity for this key intermediate will double, further strengthening the company’s position in the global market.
