McHenry Township Fire District news
I recently had the chance to attend the grand opening of the McHenry Township Fire District's Station 5. It was an exciting event filled with a lot of pride and enthusiasm from everyone involved. The station is equipped with state-of-the-art vehicles including an engine, an ambulance, a brush truck, and two trailers. The engine is a 2009 Pierce model, and the station will always have five firefighters/paramedics on duty at any given time.
One of the most interesting features of this station is its innovative lighting system. Whenever there’s an emergency call, the ceilings are lined with red LED light strips that illuminate for 90 seconds, signaling the crew to respond. It’s a small but impressive detail that adds to the overall professionalism of the station.
During my visit, I witnessed the flag-raising ceremony and watched as Engine 42 was carefully maneuvered into its quarters. It was a moment that really captured the spirit of teamwork and dedication that these firefighters embody. While I was there, I even got the chance to take a picture of the brand-new Ambulance 51 when I stopped by Station 1.
Another memorable moment came later when Engine 42 was dispatched for an EMS call. I learned that the department typically handles around 5,000 calls annually, with about 80% being medical-related. This statistic highlights the crucial role the fire district plays in providing essential emergency services to the community.
