Volkswagen plans to set up diesel engine assembly line in India

Volkswagen recently announced that in order to meet the strong demand for diesel vehicles from the Indian automotive market, the company plans to establish a diesel engine assembly line at the Chakan plant in India, and will also add engine test equipment to the country.

Mahesh Kodumudi, president and general manager of Volkswagen India, stated: "The company's assembly and testing of diesel engines at the Chakan plant will further accelerate the company's localization in India."

VW said that the newly established assembly line at the Chakan plant is expected to be put into operation by the end of this year, and will begin assembling a 1.5-liter turbocharged direct injection diesel engine. The production capacity of the new assembly line is expected to reach 98,000 units/year.

It is reported that Volkswagen has invested a total of 680 million euros in the Chakan plant for expansion. At present, the plant can produce 130,000 engines per year, and Volkswagen's goal is to further increase the plant's production capacity to 200,000 units per year.
