I just got some现场更新 from a junkyard fire that broke out on Saturday afternoon (7/1/17) at 3130 S. St Louis. The images really capture the intense heavy black smoke rising into the sky. Thanks to Tim Olk for sharing these shots.
The first photo shows an overwhelming plume of smoke billowing high above the junkyard. It’s clear this was quite a blaze. You can see the scale of it in the second image, which gives a broader view of the scene.
In another shot, you can spot Chicago Fire Department Engine 109 on the scene, indicating the emergency response effort that was underway. The firefighters look determined as they work to contain the flames in the next photo. It’s impressive to see their efforts to battle such a large fire.
More photos should be coming soon as the situation develops. This is definitely one of those incidents where you want to keep an eye on updates. Let me know if anyone has any details about how it started or if there were any injuries.
[Edit: Adding more details as I get them] From what I understand now, the fire department had to bring in additional resources due to the size and intensity of the flames. The junkyard contains a lot of scrap metal and other materials that fueled the fire. I’m still waiting to hear if there are any updates on containment or if nearby businesses were affected.
Stay tuned for further developments as this story unfolds. It’s always tough to see fires like this happen, especially in industrial areas where there’s so much at risk.
