Lakemoor apartment fire goes to 3 alarms

Last night around 11 PM, The Fox Lake Fire Department received emergency calls about a fire at an apartment building located on the 500 block of Autumn Boulevard in Lakemoor. By the time they arrived—approximately four minutes after the call—they discovered that the blaze had spread across the entire roof of the three-story, lightweight structure. Shortly afterward, a structural collapse occurred. This incident required a Level 3-11 response for tanker support and a Box Alarm for the structural collapse, with at least 19 different fire departments responding to the scene. Multiple tower ladders were dispatched to assist in managing the situation. Fox Lake, McHenry Township, Wauconda, and Round Lake all sent tower ladders, along with numerous handlines and ground-level master streams. The fire raged on for hours, requiring extensive efforts from the firefighters involved. Several interesting apparatus highlights emerged during this incident: - Both Countryside and Grayslake showcased their newly acquired equipment at the scene. - Many of the units present featured advanced lighting systems such as Nightscan or Command Light towers. These included engines from Antioch, Grayslake, and Round Lake, as well as squads from Fox Lake and Barrington. - Later in the firefight, the Fox Lake Tower Ladder—a Spartan/3D/Nova Quintech model—deployed the articulating jib of its fly-section ladder over the building from Sector 1. - McHenry Township deployed four units: an engine, a tower, a tanker, and a squad. - Round Lake contributed three units: an engine, a tower, and a tanker. - Lake Villa also brought three units: an engine, a tanker, and an ambulance. - Grayslake sent an engine and a tanker to the scene. - Lake Bluff responded with an engine, likely traveling one of the longest distances. One particularly striking image captures Antioch’s American LaFrance/Alexis engine illuminated by a Nightscan system, casting a bright glow over the area. Another shows the impressive capabilities of Fox Lake’s squad, equipped with dual light towers capable of providing ample illumination for any situation. Countryside’s recently introduced tanker was seen hard at work, while the cab-mounted Command Light of Round Lake’s engine lit up portable tanks in the background. Meanwhile, Fox Lake’s Nova Quintech Sky Arm tower ladder demonstrated its versatility by deploying its jib section from the main ladder. Out of the 19 departments that participated in this fire, ChicagoAreaFire.com currently lists the following as having been confirmed on-site: - Buffalo Grove - Cary - Countryside - Lake Bluff - Lake Forest - Lake Villa - Libertyville - Long Grove - McHenry Township - Mundelein - Newport Township - Wauconda However, some departments remain unlisted: - Antioch - Barrington - Fox Lake - Grayslake - Lake Villa - Nunda Rural - Round Lake For those interested in more visuals, Larry Shapiro has compiled a gallery of images from this fire, accessible via this link. As the firefighters continued their efforts throughout the night, the community watched anxiously, grateful for their dedication and skill in challenging circumstances.
