According to statistics from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, in the first half of the year, China's auto exports totaled US$6.142 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 1.81%, which dragged down the overall performance of auto exports. Compared with the entire vehicle, the total export volume of auto parts completed a 4.59% year-on-year increase.
With the advancement of the level of auto parts manufacturing in China, more and more parts and components companies have gone abroad to the international market. In the first half of the year, China’s total auto parts exports continued to grow, but the year-on-year increase declined. The export value of auto parts is still the largest contributor to the total auto exports, accounting for 75.82% of the total auto exports.
Parts exports are better than vehicles. The data shows that in the export of four categories of auto parts products, engine exports failed to reverse the year-on-year decline compared to 2011. In terms of tire exports, exports of automobile and motorcycle tires fell by 2.08% year-on-year, failing to extend the growth trend of last year. The export value of auto parts, accessories and auto bodies was USD 14.712 billion, an increase of 9.17% year-on-year; the export value of other auto related products was USD 5.664 billion, an increase of 3.61% year-on-year.
According to statistics from Qingdao Customs, in the first half of the year, Shandong Port exported 1.44 billion U.S. dollars worth of auto parts, an increase of 3.9% over the same period of last year, of which private enterprises exported 520 million U.S. dollars, an increase of 15.5%. According to statistics from the Shiyan City Bureau of Commerce in the country, the total vehicle and parts exports of Shiyan City in the first half of this year were nearly US$85 million, a year-on-year increase of more than 50%. According to statistics from Liuzhou, Guangxi, foreign trade, autos and parts are a major highlight. In the first half of the year, exports were US$112 million, a year-on-year increase of 31.4%. These data show that domestic auto parts exports in some provinces and cities have a good performance.
Domestic-funded enterprises should pay more attention to product quality. Regarding the performance of China’s auto parts exports in the first half of the year, Deputy Secretary-General Yang Aiguo of the Automotive Sub-Council of the China Electromechanical Products Import & Export Association stated: “The export trend of auto parts should be comprehensively analyzed and should not only focus on export data. First, we must clarify that China exports. Most of the auto parts and components are produced by wholly foreign-owned or joint-venture companies, and domestic-funded enterprises produce only about 20% of the total export products, and in order to promote the progress and development of the Chinese auto industry, more attention should be paid to the export of domestic-funded enterprises. Quantity, export amount, and product quality."
Yang Aiguo said: "According to past experience and various factors, it is expected that the trend of exports of auto parts will not change much in the second half of the year. In line with the performance of the market in the first half of the year, the value of exports will continue to increase slightly." Domestic-funded enterprises should make more preparations for export demand. Yang Aiguo believes that “domestic-funded enterprises not only have to deal with changes in the market in the second half of the year, but also plan future business development. The auto parts products exported by domestic-funded enterprises are mostly simple accessories such as rims, wire harnesses, and glass. When doing export business, it is necessary to pay attention to the matching requirements of large-scale automobile groups so as to improve the product quality, not only to do after-sales market, but also to open the supporting market."
