Hey everyone,
I just got this video from Dave Weaver showing the events that unfolded early this morning. It all started when a kind stranger driving down Main Street Rd. around dawn caught a whiff of smoke and noticed it billowing from the eaves of a single-story house. Concerned, the person called Tri-Com Central Dispatch right away to report that no one seemed to be home, as the front door was too hot to touch and there were cars parked in the driveway.
As soon as the call came in, a General Alarm was activated, and both the Elburn and Countryside Fire Protection District and several neighboring fire departments rushed to the scene. To beef up their resources even further, the Elburn battalion chief called for a MABAS Box Alarm response, bringing in additional support from nearby towns. This helped lighten the tension a bit once we learned from a neighbor that all the residents were safely out of harm’s way.
The firefighters worked tirelessly for about an hour and a half to get the flames under control. Thankfully, no one was hurt, though unfortunately, the family lost their four beloved cats. The Red Cross has been contacted to assist the three adults who live there.
