Auto parts industry will become one of the pillar industries of future Shougang

“We will continue to maintain Delphi’s leading edge and competitiveness in the field of automotive suspension and brakes and seek new resources and new opportunities in the auto parts industry. The auto parts industry will become one of the pillar industries of Shougang in the future. Zhu Jimin, chairman of Shougang Group, announced at the Shanghai International Auto Parts Expo that opened on the 21st.

At this exhibition, the first high-profile debut of BWI, Beijing's 51% stake in Shougang, attracted the attention of the industry. In March 2009, BWI successfully acquired the suspension and brake business of Delphi Corporation of the United States, and in the first quarter of this year, it created sales revenue of US$160 million. It is expected that in 2010, BWI’s sales will exceed US$600 million, and Beijing Fangshan District invested in the construction of a world-class automotive shock absorber production plant.

Zhu Jinmin introduced that after entering the new century, Shougang is committed to making all-round adjustments in terms of industrial layout, technological equipment, product structure, organizational form, and capital composition. In 2010, Shougang’s steel production will all be relocated from Beijing and the transformation from the production of traditional long products and building materials to plates, especially automobile plates and other high-end plates, will be completed. It is expected that 1 million tons of auto plates will be produced throughout the year, and the automotive materials will become Shougang. Important business.

“We hope to drive the sales of automotive materials through the supply of automotive-related parts and components. So, as early as the financial crisis has caused the entire automotive industry to slump, Shougang has begun to lay out. In 2009, it successfully acquired the Delphi global automotive suspension and brake business. In the future, we will continue to look for new resources and new opportunities in the auto parts field to gain new development, said Zhu Jimin.

According to Fang Jianyi, chairman of BWI, in November 2009, Delphi successfully delivered a seamless delivery to BWI with five suspension and brake service factories, four technology research and development centers and 14 customer service centers around the world. After more than six months of delivery, BWI's customers have not lost and orders have continued to increase. Orders with many international giants such as BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Porsche, Ferrari, and Cadillac have been smoothly executed, and sales have exceeded expectations in the first quarter of this year. "BWI will strive to become a world-class automotive parts and system assembly company with its own core technology." Fang Jianyi said, "Our goal is to provide the world with the best auto parts and components through our own brands. and service."

BWI continues to expand new businesses on the basis of maintaining its existing customers. The reporter learned that on May 27, BWI will start installing the production equipment at its shock absorber plant in Fangshan District, Beijing. In March next year, it will supply shock absorbers to domestic automakers such as Geely and Beiqi Foton. The first phase of the plant will invest 360 million yuan, with an annual output of 4 million shock absorbers, and will produce 8 million shock absorbers after full production.

Zhu Jimin also disclosed that after the relocation of the old Shougang plant site, it will “exit the real estate and surpass the CBD” and become Beijing’s creative capital, guiding higher-end industries to settle in Beijing. In return for the capital, Shougang Group will build a new industry with a production value of 100 billion yuan in Beijing. The auto parts factory in Fangshan is an important part of this.
