2-Alarm fire in Cicero, 6-1-21

On Tuesday afternoon, fire crews from Cicero were called to 28th and Cicero Avenue after reports of flames coming from a building. As more calls came in, the location was corrected to 4827 and 4829 West 28th Street. Engine Company 3 arrived first and reported heavy fire coming from the rear of a two-and-a-half story wood-frame structure with exposure issues. Shortly after, Cicero Engine 12 reached the scene and quickly contained the fire. They noted that two adjacent two-and-a-half story buildings were heavily involved. Multiple 2.5-inch attack lines were deployed by all three Cicero engine companies.
Truck Company 2 made an aggressive Milwaukee-style roof cut, which helped save part of the roof on one of the buildings. Truck Company 1 was positioned on the roof of an adjacent building, making several openings to control the fire's spread. Mutual aid units from Berwyn, Stickney, Oak Park, River Forest, Forest Park, Bedford Park, Lyons, and Riverside also responded to the incident. All the responding units worked aggressively, both inside and outside the buildings, to prevent further damage and protect surrounding structures.
