The Palatine Fire Department recently introduced their brand-new Crimson fire engine, designated as Engine 82. This state-of-the-art vehicle features a 2011 Spartan Gladiator Classic cab and chassis, equipped with a powerful 1,500-GPM pump and a 500-gallon water tank. It proudly carries Crimson job number 211035-01.
As you can see in the accompanying image, Engine 82 sports a modern look with its distinct design. The Palatine Fire Department has opted for a unique graphics package on this rig. Instead of the usual bold lettering, they’ve chosen to place a department decal on the front door and opted for a more subtle display of “Palatine Fire Department†on the rear crew door. This change gives the vehicle a sleeker appearance while still maintaining its professional identity.
Before Engine 82, the latest addition to the Palatine fleet was Quint 83, a 2009 Pierce Impel unit. As seen in another photo, this older rig had an entirely different set of graphics, which set it apart from the newer models. Interestingly enough, the previous Spartan/Crimson engine, Engine 84, retained the classic department graphics that were consistent with the rest of the fleet at the time.
For comparison, a photo of a 1965 Seagrave engine showcases the traditional door lettering that was once standard across the department. This historic piece serves as a reminder of how firefighting equipment and aesthetics have evolved over the decades.
In summary, the introduction of Engine 82 marks a significant update for the Palatine Fire Department, not only in terms of technology but also in design philosophy. These changes reflect a shift toward a more contemporary look while preserving the proud heritage of the department.
