Product Application
Ultraviolet (UV) light treatment is a widely accepted and proven method of water disinfection. Compared to other methods like chlorination or ozonation, UV light offers several advantages. It does not add any undesirable color, odor, taste, or flavor to the water, nor does it produce harmful byproducts. Instead, it simply uses energy in the form of ultraviolet radiation. UV disinfection also requires significantly less contact time than other methods, making it fast, efficient, effective, economical, and environmentally friendly.
Principle of Operation
The UV water disinfection system is designed to provide an adequate germicidal dose throughout the disinfection chamber. The dosage, which is essential for effective disinfection, depends on both the intensity of the UV radiation and the exposure time. Exposure time is influenced by the flow rate: the higher the flow rate, the shorter the exposure time, and vice versa. The UV intensity refers to the amount of energy emitted per unit of time by the germicidal lamp. The total dosage is calculated as the product of UV intensity and exposure time.
Limitation of Use
This UV water disinfection system is not intended for treating highly contaminated water, such as raw sewage, or for converting wastewater into microbiologically safe drinking water.
Water Quality (Inlet)
The quality of the incoming water plays a crucial role in the effectiveness of UV disinfection. To ensure optimal performance, the water should not exceed the following maximum concentration levels:
- Iron: ≤ 0.3 ppm (0.3 mg/L)
- Hardness: ≤ 7 gpg (120 mg/L)
- Turbidity: ≤ 1 NTU
- Manganese: ≤ 0.05 ppm (0.05 mg/L)
- Tannins: ≤ 0.1 ppm (0.3 mg/L)
- UV Transmittance: ≥ 750‰
While water with higher concentrations can still be treated, additional measures may be required to improve the water quality to acceptable levels. If you suspect that the UV transmittance is not satisfactory, please contact our factory for assistance.
