Captain Jake Ringering of the Godfrey Fire Protection District passed away at the age of 37 after being struck by a falling brick wall while responding to a residential fire on Culp Lane. His funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton, and several fundraising efforts have been organized to support his family.
Ringering was killed during a fire at 4604 Culp Lane in Bethalto. The incident occurred on Tuesday, and the investigation is still ongoing, with officials expecting to continue their work at the scene through next week. Firefighter Luke Warner, who was also injured in the same incident, underwent surgery on Wednesday and is currently recovering.
A visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, March 11, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. A walk-through by members of the Godfrey Fire Protection District will take place at 6 p.m. The funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 12, with Rev. Jeremy Paulin presiding over the ceremony.
Memorials can be made to the "Jake Ringering Family Fund" at Carrolton Bank, located at 120 Homer Adams Parkway, Alton, Illinois, 62002. In addition to this, several community fundraisers have been announced across the area.
The events include a fundraiser at the Godfrey McDonald’s from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, a gathering at Bakers & Hale on Monday, March 11, starting at 11 a.m., and a pizza night at Roma’s Pizza in Bethalto from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13. Donations are also being accepted at local police departments in Alton, Bethalto, East Alton, Jerseyville, and Wood River.
A separate fund has also been set up to support firefighter Luke Warner and his family, with donations directed to “Benefiting the Luke Warner Family†at Carrolton Bank.
