Captain Jake Ringering of the Godfrey Fire Protection District passed away at the age of 37 after being struck by a falling brick wall while responding to a residential fire on Culp Lane. His funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton, and multiple fundraisers have been organized to support his family.
Ringing was killed on Tuesday during a fire at 4604 Culp Lane in Bethalto. Firefighter Luke Warner, who was also on the scene, suffered serious injuries and underwent surgery on Wednesday. The cause of the fire is still under investigation and will continue at the site through next week.
Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, March 11, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. A walk-through by members of the Godfrey Fire Protection District will take place at 6 p.m. The funeral service is set for 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 12, with Rev. Jeremy Paulin officiating.
Memorials can be made to the Jake Ringering Family through Carrolton Bank at 120 Homer Adams Parkway, Alton, Illinois, 62002. Additional fundraising events include a donation drive at the Godfrey McDonald’s from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, a fundraiser at Bakers & Hale on Monday, March 11, starting at 11 a.m., and a special event at Roma’s Pizza in Bethalto from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13.
Donations are also being accepted at local police departments in Alton, Bethalto, East Alton, Jerseyville, and Wood River. A separate fund has been established for firefighter Luke Warner, with donations directed to “Benefiting the Luke Warner Family†at Carrolton Bank.
