ABB Introduces New Torductor Marine Torque Monitoring System

Recently, ABB launched a new torque monitoring system called Torductor Marine. The torque monitoring system is designed to optimize marine engine and fuel economy. The Torductor Marine Torque Monitoring System will be integrated with ABB's marine software portfolio to provide visual data to the crew on board and to be shared with the shore's shore support team.
ABB Introduces New Torductor Marine Torque Monitoring System
The Torductor Marine Torque Monitoring System was launched after successful trials on the Stevia Line ferry's "MV Stena Scotia" ferry. These sensors track the performance of the engine on board the ship.
These non-contact sensors are mounted facing the propeller shaft at approximately 1.5 mm intervals. Except that the propeller shaft itself has no other moving parts, this means that the system is almost maintenance-free.
It is reported that the Torductor Marine Torque Monitoring System will provide a method to meet the requirements of the International Maritime Organization, especially the Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan (SEEMP). The Torductor Marine Torque Monitoring System will provide shipowners with a clear and quantified opportunity to understand the performance of propulsion power, fuel consumption, total shaft speed during navigation and total engine energy. Combined with ABB's CoriolisMaster fuel flow sensor and fuel consumption rate, relevant key performance indicators can be generated.
After a successful test of installing the new Torductor Marine Torque Monitoring System on the port side propeller shaft, Stena Line Ferry has agreed to convert the experimental installation into a permanent installation and will purchase a second Torductor Marine for the starboard axle.
