Gasoline and diesel prices in Shencheng have continued to drop, with the wholesale price of No. 0 diesel per ton now below 6,000 yuan. According to the latest data obtained by reporters from Sinopec, the wholesale price of No. 0 diesel in the Shanghai market has fallen to 5,750 yuan per ton. This is a significant decline compared to previous months, reflecting ongoing pressure on fuel prices.
Currently, the market price for No. 0 diesel stands at 7,028 yuan per ton, which is about 1,300 yuan higher than the Sinopec wholesale price. This gap has widened further as the wholesale price has dropped more sharply, creating a difference of nearly 1,500 yuan between the two. This trend indicates that the market is adjusting to lower supply costs and increased competition among suppliers.
The recent drop in wholesale prices has reversed the long-standing issue of "upside-down" pricing, where retail prices were often higher than wholesale. In the past, when oil prices were high, gas stations had to refuse customers who wanted to buy diesel in bulk due to losses. Now, with the situation changing, many gas stations in Shanghai have resumed selling diesel in drums, offering more flexibility to consumers.
The impact of falling wholesale prices is also being felt at the retail level. Private gas stations such as East Shanghai Gas Station and Sinochem Total have started lowering their prices or offering discounts, with some reducing their rates by as much as 0.2 yuan per liter. However, major state-owned stations like Sinopec and PetroChina have yet to follow suit, maintaining stable prices despite the overall downward trend.
Industry analysts believe that with the continued decline in international oil prices, it's only a matter of time before gasoline and diesel prices across China are adjusted downward. The Shanghai market, in particular, is expected to see retail price reductions in the near future, as the pressure on fuel suppliers increases and demand stabilizes.
