Scientists invent wood chips to reduce environmental pollution in the future

According to foreign media Gizmodo reported that scientists recently successfully developed a wooden computer chip can be used for the production of biodegradable electronic products, thereby reducing environmental pollution. According to reports, the new semiconductor chip is the United States University of Wisconsin and the US Department of Agriculture Forest Products Laboratory common research results. Most computer chips have a "support" layer for placing real chips.

Researchers use a cellulose nanofibril material to make a "support" layer that replaces the original non-degradable material. Cellulose nanofibrils are made of wood and are flexible and biodegradable to reduce the environmental impact.

"The chip is safe and you throw it in the forest and the fungi can break it down," said team leader Ma Zhenqiang. "They are as safe as fertilizer."

A potential barrier to this technology is that wood will expand or contract based on the amount of moisture it absorbs from the air. The solution to the researchers was to coat the surface with an epoxy protective coating to enhance the water resistance of the cellulose nanofibrils.

The vast majority of mobile phones, tablets and other electronic products are made of non-degradable materials that are detrimental to the environment. Moreover, the rapid replacement of electronic products, but also increased the burden on the environment. But using this wooden chip will create environmentally-friendly electronics in the future.
