On October 27, a reporter learned at the 3rd International Compressor and Fan Summit that there is significant growth potential in the domestic market for large-scale ethylene compressors, long-distance pipeline compressors, PTA compressors, and large air separation units. Additionally, compressors used in major projects such as refineries, fertilizers, methanol plants, and coal chemical facilities are also expected to see strong development in the coming years.
Compressors and fans play a crucial role in the petrochemical industry. For example, a new 10 million tons per year oil refinery typically requires 30 to 40 compressors, while a one million tons per year ethylene plant may need around 50 sets of various compressors. As petrochemical plants continue to expand in scale, the demand for these machines is driving innovation toward larger capacities, series configurations, higher efficiency, integration with mechatronics, energy savings, environmental protection, improved reliability, and reduced noise levels.
For instance, even a 1% improvement in the efficiency of a large compressor can lead to annual cost savings of between 5 to 8 million yuan. This highlights the importance of continuous technological upgrades in this sector.
Moreover, it has been noted that in recent years, several domestic manufacturers have significantly enhanced their independent research and development capabilities. They are now able to meet the requirements for large compressors and fans in key domestic projects such as oil refining, ethylene production, PTA, chemical fertilizers, methanol, and coal chemicals. This marks a shift from previous reliance on imported equipment, signaling a positive trend toward self-sufficiency in critical industrial infrastructure.
