On January 19, local time, French Energy Minister Segolene Royal told the media that Renault would recall more than 15,000 cars and repair their engines to meet emission standards.
Royal believes that not only is Renault's emissions exceeding the standard, but other manufacturers must have similar problems, but the government has not yet got more information.
French media reported on Saturday that Ford and Mercedes-Benz also faced the French Ministry of Energy, questioning the NOx emissions of their diesel vehicles during actual driving far beyond the laboratory test data.
Royal did not mention which models of Renault involved in this recall. But the media said that the emissions of Reno Carbane, Espers and a multi-purpose vehicle exceeded the official standards.
“Renault has determined the number of recalled vehicles, more than 15,000 vehicles, by inspecting and repairing these vehicles to ensure that the filtration system works properly in extreme weather, hot weather and cold conditions of minus 17 degrees (and below). In both cases the filtration system will stop working,†said French Energy Minister Royal.
At the same time, Royal revealed that the repair of each engine takes about half a day. “Fairly, other brands of vehicles also have excessive emissions,†Royal said.
Royal also said that the management of other automakers has agreed to give an explanation before setting up a special investigation committee. The French government began investigating emissions from diesel vehicles after the public admitted to cheating in the diesel emissions test last September. Renault did not immediately respond to the statement of the Department of Energy.
Last week, Renault said that investigators looked at Renault's three internal websites to study its vehicle exhaust technology. The news caused the market value of Renault to evaporate by several billions due to the precautions of the public emissions case.
