Customers often queued with cash to buy, and there was a wave of buying gearboxes with a price increase of 500 yuan. In 2000, A148, A164, and the 8-speed and 5-speed gearbox independently developed by Dongfeng in 2003 were put into the market, and they were awarded the top ten satisfied brands of Chinese consumers in the same year.

While the product wins the market, the change in mechanism also brings opportunities to the gearbox. In 2018, the engine and gearbox, which have been separated for nearly 30 years, are integrated. The gearbox workshop of the new factory can produce domestic first-class heavy-duty gearbox (DT1420/1422/1425) and AMT, and its manufacturing capacity has reached world-class level. It depends on the most advanced heavy-duty gearbox factory, which does not need to go abroad, and can be seen in the Dongfeng Powertrain Division.

"At present, the powertrain division's gearbox products can be divided into two categories, one is the medium-sized 6-stop products (currently the annual sales volume is 2-3 million units, and the export sales account for nearly half). We are doing competitiveness improvement and Maintenance; the other is the heavy-duty 14-speed series. We plan to stop the 14-box box developed by ourselves and put it into the new DT1420/1422/1425/1428 series, which will keep the production capacity and supplier management highly consistent. With the increase in heavy-duty 14-speed sales, the internalization rate has exceeded 50% in recent months.” Yang Peng said that in addition to the manual transmission, Dongfeng has launched heavy-duty AMT to the market this year, and currently delivers more than 200 units. The feedback is very good. "In the next 5 years, according to the needs of the whole vehicle, the gearbox will form a 6S/8S/14S/AMT product matrix, and strive to increase the sales of AMT and matching hydraulic retarder gearboxes and increase operating profit."
