Monel 400 Characteristics 
Monel 400 is a highly corrosion-resistant alloy that offers excellent performance in a wide range of environments. It is particularly known for its resistance to hydrofluoric acid and fluoride gases, as well as hot concentrated alkalis. Additionally, it is resistant to neutral solutions, seawater, air, and organic compounds. One of its key features is that it generally does not develop stress corrosion cracking, making it ideal for machining applications.

Monel 400 is a high-strength single-phase solid solution alloy.
 
Monel 400 Corrosion Resistance
Monel 400 exhibits exceptional corrosion resistance in fluoride gas, hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, and their derivatives. It also has better corrosion resistance than copper alloys in seawater. In acidic environments, Monel 400 is resistant to sulfuric acid with concentrations below 85%. It is an important material for resisting hydrofluoric acid. In water corrosion, it shows excellent resistance, with low pitting and stress corrosion, and a corrosion rate less than 0.025 mm/year. At high temperatures, it can operate up to around 600°C in air or high-temperature steam, with a corrosion rate less than 0.026 mm/year. Monel 400 is resistant to hydrous ammonia and amine conditions below 585°C due to its high nickel content.
